Takovite, Ni6Al2(OH)i6CO3-5H2O, with molar Ni/Al ratios of 2.5 and 3 is prepared by precipitation at pH levels of 7 and 10, periods of reaction of 3 and 20 hr, and calcination temperatures varying between 120° and 8 5 3°C. The quantity of reduced Ni is determined as a function of the calcination temperature, and the solid phases remaining after reduction are determined with XRD. The Ni/Al ratio, pH of precipitation, and calcination temperature are important preparation conditions. A precursor of a Ni/Al ratio of 2.5 precipitated at a pH-level of 10 exhibits on reduction metallic Ni particles of about 15 nm irrespective of the drying or calcination temperature. After reduction, a considerable amount of NaAlO2 is present. Metallic Ni particles of 6 nm are present in a reduced precursor of Ni/Al ratio of 2.5 precipitated at a pH-level of 7. The size of the Ni particles present in a reduced precursor of Ni/Al ratio of 3 precipitated at a pH-level of 10 rises from 4–8 nm to 16 nm after calcination at temperatures increasing from 120° to 853°C. The last precursor contains much less sodium, and shows after reduction a disordered NiO phase containing some alumina. Especially, the takovite with the molar Ni/Al ratio of 2.5, thoroughly washed to remove Na, and calcined at T ≤ 260°C before reduction of Ni provides a promising catalyst for the production of hydrogen-carbon monoxide flows out of methane and steam.

The maximum crystal radius Rn of ice in hollow wet chrysotile tubes is established by thermoporometry to be between 2.8 and 3.2 nm, and the internal pore volume Vn of the tubes to be between 0.008 and 0.02 ml/g. The hollow tubes of chrysotile and, for comparative reasons, small plates of talc, are hydrothermally synthesized at temperatures between 563 and 600 K and at pressures between 75 and 120 hPa. Size and shape of the pores can be varied by changing the Mg/Si molar ratios in steps of 3/1.5 and 3/2 for chrysotile and 3/3.6 and 3/4 for talc. The tubular morphology of the aggregates dried at 393 K is investigated by 1) transmission electron microscopy (TEM), 2) nitrogen adsorption and desorption at 77 K, and 3) diffuse reflectance infrared fourier transformed spectroscopy (DRIFTS). The radius within the hollow tubes, Ri, is between 2.5 and 4.0 nm as measured by TEM, and between 2.8 and 3.2 nm as determined by nitrogen adsorption and desorption. The measured radii agree well with the value calculated from crystallographic data, which is smaller than 5.3 nm. Within the dried aggregates the tubes are clustered in regular patterns, in which each tube is surrounded by six other tubes. The external radius, Ro, between the clustered tubes is from 1.6 to 2.9 nm as observed by TEM, and from 1.8 to 2.3 nm by N2 adsorption and desorption. The external radius is not measured by thermoporometry. Where thermoporometry only measures the average pore size and pore volume within the tubes, TEM and N2 adsorption and desorption additionally provide the corresponding values between the tubes. A third pore radius, 5 to 20 nm between the clusters of chrysotile tubes, is established with N2 adsorption and desorption.

Objective:
North Dakota (ND) had the highest coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case and mortality rate in the United States for nearly 2 mo. This study aims to compare 3 metrics ND used to guide public health action across its 53 counties.
Methods:Daily COVID-19 case and death totals in North Dakota were evaluated using data from the COVID-tracker website provided by the North Department of Health (NDDoH). It was reported as: active cases per 10,000, tests administered per 10,000, and test positivity rate (the North Dakota health metric). The COVID-19 Response press conferences provided data for the Governor’s metric. The Harvard model used daily new cases per 100,000. A chi-squared test was used to compare differences in these 3 metrics on July 1, August 26, September 23, and November 13, 2020.
Results:On July 1, no significant difference between the metrics was found. By September 23, Harvard’s health metric indicated critical risk while ND’s health metric was moderate risk, and the Governor’s metric was still low risk.
Conclusions:ND’s and the Governor’s metric underrepresented the risk of the COVID-19 outbreak in North Dakota. The Harvard metric reflected North Dakota’s increasing risk; it should be considered as a national standard in future pandemics.
Public Health Implications:Model-based predictors could guide policy-makers to effectively control spread of infectious disease; proactive models could reduce risk of disease as it progresses in vulnerable communities.

Introduction:
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted populations internationally, through infections and consequences of infections, and by the countermeasures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Concerns exist surrounding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of youths in the Netherlands. Consequently, we studied quarterly trends and risk factors of suicidal ideation among Dutch youths from September 2021 onwards.
Method:The Network GOR-COVID-19, a research group consisting of different organizations, monitors the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on population health. As one element of this monitoring, quarterly data collections have been undertaken since September 2021 from a panel of youths (12 – 25 years of age) representative of the Dutch population. Online questionnaires collect data on self-reported health and wellbeing. We analyzed a selection of demographic, social activity, and mental health variables as potential risk factors for self-reported suicidal ideation in the previous three months. We assessed trends, performed longitudinal analyses, and conducted logistic and random forest regressions per quarterly round of data collection. Analyses were weighted for age, sex, educational level, and province where appropriate.
Results:Approximately 4,500 youths participated in each quarterly questionnaire, with some participating more than once. Results showed substantial increases in self-reported suicidal ideation during and immediately after the third lockdown in the Netherlands in December 2021, rising from 9% to 17%, then slowly decreasing to 16% in May/June 2022, and to 13% in September 2022. In all multivariable analyses variables relating to mental health were indicated as risk factors. The strongest associations were seen in those experiencing mental health complaints and loneliness. Demographic variables were not strongly associated with suicidal ideation.
Conclusion:The monitoring conducted by The Network GOR-COVID-19 enables the tracking of trends in the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of Dutch youths in The Netherlands.

I examine the impact of the opioid epidemic on subprime auto lending. Using a difference-in-differences framework, I find that county-level increases in opioid abuse cause an increase in loan defaults. Moreover, I find that traditional credit scoring attributes (e.g., FICO score) fail to predict loan performance deterioration associated with opioid addiction. The weak predictive performance of traditional credit measures and the resulting higher default rates generate a negative externality for borrowers in opioid-afflicted areas, as evidenced by 5.7% higher loan costs for subprime borrowers.

Background
Antisociality across adolescence and young adulthood puts individuals at high risk of developing a variety of problems. Prior research has linked antisociality to autonomic nervous system and endocrinological functioning. However, there is large heterogeneity in antisocial behaviors, and these neurobiological measures are rarely studied conjointly, limited to small specific studies with narrow age ranges, and yield mixed findings due to the type of behavior examined.
MethodsWe harmonized data from 1489 participants (9–27 years, 67% male), from six heterogeneous samples. In the resulting dataset, we tested relations between distinct dimensions of antisociality and heart rate, pre-ejection period (PEP), respiratory sinus arrhythmia, respiration rate, skin conductance levels, testosterone, basal cortisol, and the cortisol awakening response (CAR), and test the role of age throughout adolescence and young adulthood.
ResultsThree dimensions of antisociality were uncovered: ‘callous-unemotional (CU)/manipulative traits’, ‘intentional aggression/conduct’, and ‘reactivity/impulsivity/irritability’. Shorter PEPs and higher testosterone were related to CU/manipulative traits, and a higher CAR is related to both CU/manipulative traits and intentional aggression/conduct. These effects were stable across age.
ConclusionsAcross a heterogeneous sample and consistent across development, the CAR may be a valuable measure to link to CU/manipulative traits and intentional aggression, while sympathetic arousal and testosterone are additionally valuable to understand CU/manipulative traits. Together, these findings deepen our understanding of the fundamental mechanisms underlying different components of antisociality. Finally, we illustrate the potential of using current statistical techniques for combining multiple datasets to draw robust conclusions about biobehavioral associations.
